Favorite Trip Story

Several decades ago I took a delightful family of three (father, mother, early teen daughter) on a 10 day horse packing trip. Their planned trip to Europe with friends fell through at the last minute, and they decided to try for a trip out west as an alternate plan. We had availability, and off we went into the Bob Marshall. Along the way we bonded and had an incredible adventure together. As with many of our guests, were were fast friends after that and kept in touch over the years though they did not come out again. Then, last year the daughter, now an accomplished corporate attorney reached out to me asking to go on another trip - with her husband and their early teenage children. That young girl had such an incredible experience she wanted to share it with her own family 30 years later. That is the kind of experience we provide and the goals we set for ourselves - generational engagement.

Local Knowledge & Certifications/Training

The owners and staff of A Lazy H have been providing wilderness excursion trips for over 80 years. We have deep knowledge of the local geography, geology, history, and culture of this part of the mountains. We have permits and certifications with the US Forest Service, State of Montana, and other related agencies. Additionally, our staff is trained on wilderness survival and first aid, as well as highly experienced with livestock care. Finally, we are passionate about our trips and obsessed with providing the kind of customer service that gives you an extraordinary experience.

Sustainable Practices

A Lazy H Outfitters and our predecessors have been stewards of the land and practitioners of leave-no-trace since we started taking trips in the early 1920's. Our back country horse packtrips preceded the wilderness act by 40 years and our legacy of land and resource conservation is unbroken from the beginning. The culture of preserving the land and the incredible natural areas we visit flows through the entire organization and we convey these best practices in all ways to our guests. Additionally, a great deal of our provisioning supplies are provided by local suppliers to ensure the best possible products for our meals every day of the trip. Our routes and favorite campsites are well worn yet our guest travelers will be hard pressed to detect that they've ever been visited before. It's a culture we have cultivated for many decades.
