This little lake caught between Alberta Highway 3 and Sentry Mountain is, seasonally, an extension of Crowsnest Lake, on Southwest Alberta's Crowsnest Pass. When water levels are low, it is an autonomous, deep basin. In late spring, a small cave in the cliff face emits an ephemeral fall.
Driving Directions from Nearest Town or Landmark
Turn off Provincial Highway 3 at Alberta Tourism information centre. Turn immediately right on gravel access road and continue along the old highway right of way to Emerald Lake.
Fishing Access Highlights
A steep road leads to a boat launch on the south side of the lake.
Fishing Highlights
Rarely fished, Emerald Lake is reputed to shelter a population of native cutthroat trout, as well as residual lake and rainbow trout from early, ill-advised introductions of non-native species.
Paddling Highlights
This could be good for a quick paddle, but the constant traffic of Provincial Highway 3 disqualifies it as a wilderness experience.
