First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park | Great Falls, Montana
For at least one thousand years, before horses and guns made the work easier and safer, Plains Indians stampeded bison over this ledge to be finished off by the spears and arrows of hunters waiting below. First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is possibly the largest cliff jump in North America. The mile long sandstone cliff still shows signs of where buffalo were run off cliff.
In addition to the archaeological site, there's a 6,000 sq foot interpretive center, outdoor amphitheater, and trails. In the summer, we suggest checking out the bison cliff jump in the morning as there is minimal shade. The panoramic views of the Rocky Mountain Front and Missouri Valley will take your breath away. Make sure you snap some pictures.
