Mills Wilderness Adventures of Montana | Augusta, Montana
Join the Mills family and their horse string on a 24-mile sojourn into the heart of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, where you may never want to leave the scenic camp along the banks of the White River, a fly-fisherman's heaven.
This family owned business was built from the ground up by Ron Mills, who has been leading dudes into the wilderness since 1959. Ron was raised in Augusta and started this guiding service in 1977 after 27 years as a guide for for seven different outfitters in and around the Bob Marshall Wilderness. During this time he fell in love with the horses, mountains, and the adventure. Along with outfitting Ron had a horseshoeing business for 25 years. Though Ron had a modest start, his experience in the wilderness and with horses and people have helped him expand and become one of the largest and most successful outiftters in the area. Ron and his son Tucker became partners in 1997. Tucker was raised in the outfitting business. He went on his first pack trip with his father when he was 5. Like Ron, once Tucker was introduced to the wilderness he never looked back.
Types of Experiences and Trips Provided
Ron, Tucker, Amy and the rest of the Mills family pride themselves for the authentic adventures offered to their guests in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. One of the summer camps the Mills operate is in White River. White River is geographically located in the heart of the Bob Marshall and is truly the trip of a lifetime. The scenery on this trip will take your breathe away. This is a 24 mile ride in on horse back to a comfortable base camp with wall tents. The camp is located approximately 150 yard from the the White River and the fly fishing is fabulous. Aside from the first day in camp daily sight seeing rides are offered. One of the most popular rides is up Haystack Mountain which over looks the well known Chinese Wall. This is an overpowering sight. Many other great rides will be taken on the seven day trip such as Needle Falls, Rampart Mountian, the South Fork of the Flathead River and Gladiator Mountain. After an exciting day ride many guests choose to raise their heart rate even more and take a swim in the White River while others may lounge by the river or in camp reading a book, visiting or napping.
