Summer Activities
There are great opportunities for nature viewing, wildlife observing, climbing and hiking. The terrain is varied from easy plateau walking to accessible mountain ridges - something for the inexperienced and advanced hikers. Outstanding views of the surrounding area. The chalet is in close proximity to White Man Pass and Spray Pass, and therefore can act as a hub for explorations to and from the Spray River Valley, Palliser Pass and Burstall Pass in Banff National Park and Kananaskis Provincial Park.

Winter Activities
Cross-country skiing, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing. Non-avalanche terrain and accessible mountain ridges vary for inexperienced and advanced skiers. Enjoy wonderful afternoons exploring the gentle and extensive plateau by the lodge and admire the panoramic view of the peaks at their winter best. The larch meadows adjacent to and below the lodge offer fantastic opportunities to enjoy the snow and observe wildlife. More adventurous and experienced groups will delight in the variety and the intricacies of the terrain and superb landforms of this unique corner of the Rocky Mountains.

Talus Lodge offers comfortable off-the-grid lodging in the high alpine of the Canadian Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. Remotely positioned and uniquely accessed, this summer and winter lodging option offers an experience like no other. Once you arrive, human-powered recreation activities are limitless. Terrain offers spectacular hiking, skiing, and wildlife viewing amongst breathtaking scenery.

Talus Lodge is a two storey chalet style building featuring accommodation for up to 12 guests. The first floor consists of 4 bedrooms and an equipment/drying room. The second floor contains the kitchen, living and dining areas, as well as another bedroom. There is a guest bedroom in the adjacent cabin as well as a loft bedroom within the main building. Twelve guests are comfortably accommodated. Delicious homemade meals and appetizers are prepared for you during your stay, which incorporate locally-grown fruit and produce from the Windermere Valley or Okanagan when in season.

Driving Directions

Adjacent to Banff National Park and accessible by helicopter only from Canmore, Alberta. The Talus Lodge area boundary is the Continental Divide between Spray and White Man Passes.

Lodging Style and Amenities

The lodge is bright and comfortably finished with upholstered chair and couches. All rooms offer outstanding views and access to sun decks. A utilities building adjacent to the lodge contains washroom, sauna and showers.

It is well suited for private and intimate gatherings. The facilities may also be used for a wedding, anniversary, special event or corporate retreat ... Join them for yoga, art, photography, geology, star gazing, wine sampling and more. For those seeking the ultimate in privacy and ideal setting, there is the option to book the private cabin, located away from the lodge.


Chris and Joanne Espinel, Talus Lodge owners and hosts, offer an experience like no other in the East Kootenay portion of the Crown of the Crown of the Continent. Both are involved with the local community of Invermere, BC and have donated Talus Lodge Packages to Wings Over the Rockies Fesitval and Westside Legacy Trail as fundraising items. Chris has been a volunteer/presenter for Wings Over the Rockies Festival, a member of the Hut Society, and volunteered for Search and Rescue in the capacity of Search Manager in Invermere. They both try to be involved in the conservation side of things with local organizations. Joanne is a local school teacher in Invermere and keeps the lodge running smoothly. It's safe to say they are a wealth of knowledge about the region and look forward to hosting and guiding you in their favorite place to make memories.
