Ages Festival is Appropriate For
In January several events will be taking place in the Flathead area, hosted by members of the Flathead Community of Resource Educators and friends, to celebrate the 24th anniversary of National Winter Trails Day. Flathead National Forest/Foys to Blacktail, Glacier National Park, MT Wilderness Association, Flathead Audubon, and Lone Pine State Park will all be offering opportunities to snowshoe, ski or do other outdoor activities. Most sites will offer FREE trail passes, rentals, and lessons.
Flathead Audubon- January 12, 2019 Join experienced tracker and wildlife researcher Brian Baxter on Saturday, January 12th, 2019 from 9am-2:30 pm for an outing at Owen Sowerwine Natural Area. Winter is a great time to improve the outdoor skills of identifying wild animals and their behavior by understanding the oldest writing known on the earth – animal tracking! Bring your snowshoes. Flathead National Forest- Blacktail Mountain- 2019 Event Postponed Snowshoe walk in the Flathead National Forest, hosted by the Swan Lake Ranger District and Foy’s to Blacktail Trails, will be at the Blacktail Mountain cross-country ski trails near Lakeside, 10am-Noon. Come explore the winter landscape and enjoy a guided look at animal tracks, trees and shrubs and even the snowpack. Participants may bring snowshoes, or a limited number of children and adult shoes will be available by reservation. Please meet at the Blacktail Cross-Country Ski Trails parking area. Lone Pine State Park- January 19, 2019 Explore Lone Pine State Park on snowshoes. From 10am to 5pm, park visitors can borrow snowshoes and explore the many park trails. If you are planning on attending the event, please contact the park at 755-2706 for more information or to reserve snowshoes for a fee. A ranger-led snowshoe walk takes place at noon and 3:00 PM. Nordic Demo Day- January 20, 2019
Glacier Nordic Center and Glacier Cyclery & Nordic have teamed up to provide FREE beginner lessons and nordic ski rentals available. Call 406.862.6446 for more info!
Glacier National Park Ranger-led snowshoe hikes at Glacier National Park will be hosted at 10:30am and 2pm. Each hike will last approximately two hours and reservations are not required. Take an intimate look at the park searching for signs of wildlife, discovering plants and animals and enjoying the solitude of winter. Snowshoes are available for hike participants. Visitors need to purchase a park entrance pass. Please meet at the Apgar Visitor Center. Call 888-7800 for more information.
